Although not as widely followed, massively hyped, or prestigious as it’s big brother Le Tour de France, La Vuelta A Espanå is still more than worthy of your viewing attention and this years version has already provided us with plenty of action.
The controversial return of Contador is also drawing much attention in the media this year, and whether you love him or loathe him, you can be guaranteed that the previous winner of all 3 of the Grand Tours has his heights set on a triumphant return. Add to that the ambitions of Valverde for this year, and of course Froome’s current form and desire to step out of Wiggins’ shadow, and you have a recipe for some great racing, in some of the most challenging terrain you’re likely to find on a road bike.
Coverage of selected stages will be shown on SBS over the next 3 weeks, which although less than ideal for the avid cycling fan, should be enough to whet the appetite of those of us still keen to see some cycling action from the Pro Tour.
